The Great Toothbrush Conspiracy Theory
If you have read the above, you may be wondering why all toothbrushes aren’t designed to be as effective at cleaning teeth and gums as an AS1032 toothbrush.

I call the following a “Conspiracy Theory” because if it is true, it would mean the multi-national toothbrush manufacturers are prepared to jeopardise the long-term health of their customers for short term profits.

To understand this “Conspiracy Theory” you will need to realise that the cost of toothbrush bristles and inserting the bristles into the handle, is nearly 90% of the manufacturing cost of a AS1032 toothbrush such as Guiding.

In the 1990’s and early 2000’s multi-national toothbrush brands found they could nearly halve their manufacturing costs by reducing the number of bristles in their brushes. They also realised if they added different coloured bristles, Consumers would pay double the price for these “modern” Chinese style toothbrushes.

Halving the manufacturing cost and selling them for twice the price means much more profit.

And it gets worse.

As these modern toothbrushes were relatively ineffective at cleaning teeth, Consumers had to start buying expensive whitening toothpastes if they wanted whiter teeth. In the late 1990’s, P&G (one of the world's largest toothpaste suppliers) stated in their Annual Report to Shareholders, that most of their extra profit was due to the increase in Whitening toothpastes sales. Apparently Whitening toothpastes had considerably higher selling prices but only minimal extra manufacturing costs.
And it even gets worse.

As the General Public became aware that poor gum health caused heart attacks, toothpaste brands launched Medicated toothpastes (at an even higher price) to help prevent Consumers from having a heart attack. In some countries like Australia, they did have problems with their marketing claims for legal reasons. And also to avoid having to accepting responsibility.
Because I see the good in everyone, I really hope multi-national corporations launched modern toothbrush designs out of incompetence or because they were more profitable and not as a “marketing tool” to increase sales of Whitening and Medicated toothpastes. If they did launch modern toothbrush designs to increase sales of Whitening and Medicated toothpastes, they are putting profit before the health of Consumers and in my opinion that is just pure Evil.
This “Conspiracy Theory” would explain why Colgate and their Illegal Cartel Partner have been trying to prevent Australians from being able to buy a Guiding toothbrush in supermarkets.
